Can I change my mind and move my ticket?

Yes, you can change your mind until your ticket has been used. - Raffles: Once we draw a winner for a raffle basket, all tickets in that basket are considered “used” and cannot be moved or redeemed for prizes. - Prize Cart: Tickets that have been redeemed for prizes are considered “used.”

To move a ticket into a new raffle basket, click the Edit button next to the book, then select a new option in the drop-down menu. If you are not able to select a new option, that means the ticket has already been used.

Can I count this?

Start Date

Only include books that you started reading on or after June 16.

We should not see an impossible number of books on the first day of the program. Starting the program off by violating this rule may disqualify you from winning prizes for the rest of the summer.

Book Types

The following book types count. If you're not sure about something, please contact a librarian first.

  • books
  • ebooks
  • audiobooks
  • graphic novels

Reading Level

Please read at your own reading level.

Every adult should feel comfortable participating, regardless of their reading level. If books found in the children’s department match your reading level, you are welcome to submit them. However, you should not submit children’s books if they are not appropriate for your normal reading level.

Young Adult (YA) books are considered adult.

Page Length

There is no restriction on page length.

Can I participate without...

...a library card?

Yes! You can participate without a Berlin-Peck Memorial Library card.

...a computer or smartphone?

Yes! Call or visit the reference desk, and a librarian will be able to submit books for you. Your books will be visible on the Summer Reading website, but you will not need to use the website yourself.

...entering the library?

Yes! You can participate without entering the library by submitting books online. The library will not mail prizes, but we will arrange for curbside pickup. Call the library to arrange for curbside pickup of prizes.

For any other accommodation, please call 860-828-7126.

Can I pick my team or swap teams?

Nope! Teams are assigned randomly and cannot be changed.

Can people see my personal info?

Some of it.

When submitting your books online, please keep in mind that other readers can see your username, book titles, comments, and total number of books read. Your full name, email address, and prize choices will not be visible. Anyone who chooses to appear in promo photos will be identified by first name only (no last name or username) so their likeness is not tied to their reading history.

Do books count for the year-long reading challenge

You can do both!

Yes! You can count your All-Year Reading Challenge books in our Summer Reading program, too.

Our All-Year Reading Challenge asks you to read a book of your choice that fits the month’s theme. Record your book(s) in your booklet, then visit the Adult Reference Desk to receive an entry in our end-of-year raffle for a gift card to a local business.

This program is in-person with no online option. Visit the Adult Reference Desk to pick up a challenge sheet.

Does reading level matter?

Yes and no.

The only reading level that matters is YOURS.

There is no restriction on reading level. Every adult should feel comfortable participating, regardless of their reading level. If materials found in the children's department match your reading level, you are welcome to submit them for Adult Summer Reading.

Do not abuse this rule in a way that unfairly inflates your book total. We should not see someone submitting a significant number of children's books alongside full-length novels. Doing so will disqualify you from winning raffle prizes for the rest of the summer. The books in question will have their tickets deactivated, meaning they cannot be redeemed for prizes.

What about Young Adult (YA) books?

As far as reading level is concerned, Young Adult books are considered adult books. The YA designation is given based on subject matter, genre, and the age of its protagonists—not reading level.

How do raffles and prizes work?

You earn one (1) ticket for every book you read and submit online. Tickets are virtual only—there are no paper tickets.

Each time you submit a book online, you can choose what to do with your ticket. - Raffles: When you submit your book online, select a raffle basket to enter your ticket. We’ll contact raffle winners by email or phone. - Prize Cart: When you submit your book online, leave the raffle basket blank to keep your ticket. Visit the Reference Desk to redeem unused tickets for prizes!

What happens if I break the rules?

Participants who are breaking the rules will receive one reminder. If they do not provide a satisfactory response, they may be disqualified from raffles. Questionable books may have their tickets deactivated (they cannot be used for raffles or redeemed for prizes). There is no further notice or appeal procedure.

A participant will only be disqualified due to an obvious pattern, not a few questionable books. If you think your reading choices may be misinterpreted, please consult a librarian before adding them to the summer reading website.

If we determine you are breaking the rules and you do not correct the situation after a reminder, you will be disqualified. You will not receive notice of disqualification and will not be visibly disqualified. Your books may still appear on this website, and your total may still appear on the leaderboard.
